Who doesn’t love a long bubble bath after a long day at work? Adding a fizzy, colorful bath bomb or liquid bubble bath & sparkles to your tub can transform your humble bathroom into a sweet-scented, stress-relieving spa. But, if you’re not careful, these bath bombs and bubble baths may unleash a new headache lurking just around the corner: a slow draining tub or clogged bathtub drain.
Bath bombs are composed of scents, Epsom salts, and oils meant to offer the ultimate fragrant and color sensational bathing experience. Some additional additives in bath bombs are essential oils, baking soda, cornstarch, and glitter. These additives leave behind a sticky residue that does not dissolve well in drain systems. Oils, baking soda, and cornstarch harden and solidify over time, leading to a hefty build-up and nasty clogs!
We suggest using a tub strainer to keep out large objects to prevent clogs. Danco offers a variety of Hair Catchers and Tub Strainers designed to prevent hair and debris from clogging drains. Danco’s Suction Cup Hair Catcher uses a suction design to keep it in place when the stopper is open or closed. Another great product by Danco is the Bathtub Drain Hair Catcher featuring unique pegs that trap debris along the silicone petal before sneaking down the drain.
A unique tip is to place the bath bomb into a nylon sock and tying shut before plopping it into the water. The nylon material allows the beneficial ingredients to dissolve in the water, while keeping the harmful ingredients contained.
In addition to tub strainers and nylon socks, Liquid Rhyno offers powerful solutions to clear clogs caused by drain clogs and prevent them in the future.
If you’ve been using bath bombs regularly and noticed that your tub is draining much slower than usual, you probably already have a clog. The Drain Opener blasts clog in sinks, tubs, and showers using a concentrate 2X stronger than leading bleach products. To use the Drain Opener, pour ¼ into the drain, allowing at least 10 minutes to work. Flush with warm water and repeat steps if necessary. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
For monthly maintenance, please use the Build-Up Remover. The Build-Up Remover dual-action biologicals + enzymes eat away hair, grease, paper, organic matter, food, and soap scum in sinks, tubs, toilets, and garbage disposals. Pour ¼ of the bottle into the drain, flush with warm water for 30 seconds and allow the product to work overnight. Repeat if necessary for 3 consecutive days for stubborn clogs. For best results, use monthly.
While bath bombs can cause clogs if you must use them during bath time, be prepared for extra work. Please use bath bombs sparingly in conjunction with tub strainers and Liquid Rhyno drain products to prevent build-up and glittery, smell-inducing clogs.
